Secure by design. Automated by default.

I’m Stephen George, a technology leader with 25+ years of experience helping large organizations run their infrastructure leaner, safer and with less manual effort. Today I’m Senior Associate Director at HSBC, where I lead strategic automation across the bank’s Windows, Linux, VM and x86 environments.

How I got here

My career didn’t start in a boardroom. In 2000 I was in Aurangabad, running pilot projects and training teams on data capture and conversion. Those early years in operations, audit and BPO taught me something I still rely on: technology only works when the people and processes around it work too.

That lesson shaped the next phase. I moved into project management, leading a 110-person healthcare operations team in Mumbai and then joining EDS (later Mphasis) in 2006. There I served as a Local Transformation Manager when the India Project Management Organization was being set up. Over 12 years I went from migrating service desks across the US and Europe to leading 70+ project and program managers with full P&L responsibility, negotiating global infrastructure contracts along the way.

The turning point

In 2018 I moved from the services side to inside a global bank, joining Barclays’ CISO and controls team. Seeing infrastructure through a security lens changed how I thought about everything. Many of the risks we chased came back to the same root: manual, inconsistent work.

So I moved from auditing the problem to engineering it away. At Barclays I led the automation factory for server provisioning and tear-down. Since 2023 I’ve led HSBC’s Strategic Automation Portfolio, first as Vice President, Enterprise Services, and now as Senior Associate Director.
